To me, learning a language is important because it will open up opportunities for me in jobs and other life experiences. I am taking Spanish 4 because I love the language and think it is interesting and fun to learn Spanish.

I agree with a lot of what Nicole said. One major reason I wanted to continue my Spanish education is for my future career. I don't really see myself living in a Spanish-speaking country, or even visiting one a whole lot [who knows maybe it will happen], but I do see myself encountering many Spanish speakers through my career. I hope to have a job in healthcare, hopefully working in a hospital. I know for a fact that I will deal with many Spanish speakers if this is what I end up doing with my life. Not only will it make me more money having a Spanish background, but also it will gain the respect of my patients. For a doctor to be able to personally speak to all of their patients instead of having a translator, will make the patient appreciate and respect you so much more. I volunteer at the hospital in the NICU, and there was a baby of a Spanish-speaking mother there. I noticed when the nurse talked to her she would talking really loud [as if the mother couldn't hear just because she spoke Spanish], and made a ton of hand gestures. She kind of treated her as if she couldn't understand anything, as if she was dumb. I wanted to walk over and talk to the mother for the nurse. I know it would have made the mother feel and ease and more comfortable in the situation. These are just some of the reasons I love learning Spanish.

I am taking Span. 4 because it will be a nice asset to have later in life. Being able to cross over language barriers is something that definitely has the potential to be helpful later in life. Also, playing games in class is pretty awesome and Mrs. Lockner knows how to run a pretty fun class.

I agree with everyone. I am taking Spanish Four to better my chances with jobs and to see things about another culture. Spanish is an
interesting language to get to learn.

I am taking Spanish, because I want to major in it in college to be able to teach others about an amazing language that is becoming more and more dominant in the United States today. Spanish gives you great opportunities to be able to get a better job or work in a Spanish area or job. Also I love the teacher Mrs. Lockner!

I also agree with everyone. I personally am in Spanish 4 because it is something valuable to have when I get older, I will need it for my future career, and for my minor in college. I want to be able to travel the world and visit Spanish speaking countries and be able to communicate with the people in their language. I love learning new things, and Spanish is something that I will never know all of and I can keep on learning it in the future. It is also going to help me with being able to get a job easier, a lot of company’s look highly upon those who can speak a foreign language, and it helps that I love speaking it and I understand it pretty well.

Everyone has their own personal reasons for learning Spanish but we all have the same concept of wanting to learn it because we love it and it will help us immensely when we get older!

Tracy, you totally stole my idea. I am going into Nursing for a career, and I know I will encounter people and patients with whom to communicate I will need spanish. However, this is not only necessary in the health field [[and yes, ben, brain surgeons do need spanish, even if your patients will usually be unconsious. ]] I have worked at Hy-Vee for 2 years, and i have even used Spanish there. It's very common, even in our sheltered city of Sioux Falls.

Learning a language is important for many reasons. It really makes you think.. and with our society today becoming more and more diverse, learning a language can only be beneficial! I'm personally taking Spanish to a)obviously get the credits b)because it could help me in the long run in numerous ways [jobs and other random situations/encounters] and c)as confusing as it is, I just plain enjoy it! :)

Being able to cross language barriers is so important. I agree with everyone on all their reasons. There is no bad reason or unimportant reason to learn a language. If you have the opportunity to learn a different language you should definatly do it. It will help you become a better person. You will be able to talk to other people and meet new friends. You may have an opportunity to go to the country and the experience will mean so much more if you can speak the language. I am taking Spanish 4 because I have loved taking it all my high school years. I also think it's very fun and actually an interesting class to be in instead of being bored. I also want to minor in it in college or possibly major.

So pretty much i just love this language! I enjoy speaking it and enjoy learning about other people's cultures and there are so many different cultures out there that you can learn a lot about yourself while you learn of others. Of course there is the college thing and it is always great to have one up on the others and to take a class that is at a college level never hurt anyone. Also it is so great to be able to communicate with people you would never have had the opportunity of meeting before. There was this one time at the steakhouse when i was working with adrienne and this guy was listening to us murdering the language and he actually spoke to us in spanish and it was really rad!

I am taking Spanish because I feel it's a valuable thing to do for education purposes. But i also feel it's stupid to just take a language for a few short years and not be able to fully understand the language and how it works. Why do it just to learn a few words when you can take it much, much further? I agree with Tracy and Katalina about going into Nursing and how important Spanish will be with it.

I have to agree with Tracy on why learning Spanish is important. I want to go into a career where I will hopefully encounter Spanish speaking people and will be able to have a conversation with them. I kind of want to travel to South America for my career, so I thought that taking this class will definitely help me in the future with my career. And honestly I took Spanish 4 because I didn't want to quit after the other three years of hard work. It would have been a waste of my time to take Spanish 1, 2, and 3 and not take 4, so that's the other reason why I took this class.

I'm studying Spanish because I will be going into the medical field and its going to help out alot getting a job. Also, it's kinda fun to learn and its probably my favorite class.

and i agree with Mallory.. i don't wanna quit something i started. I liked it the first two years... so i decided to continue it.

I believe learning a language is very important. There are many times that you can use that language to help other people that might not know your own language. I also believe that it makes you a more well-rounded person. I am taking Spanish, because I know that there are many Spanish-speaking people in our country. I know from working at Hy-Vee, that many of the customers only know spanish, so it is easier conversing with them if you at least know some spanish. I also plan to travel as I get older, and knowing Spanish will be very beneficial when going to spanish-speaking countries. Also later in your career it is very beneficial to know spanish, because you might have a only spanish speaking client.

I also agree with Mallory that probably the best reason to study Spanish if for your future career. I also agree with Allison on the point that it'd be stupid to start out a language, and than stop taking classes before you fully understand and comprehend the language. Erin also makes a good point that you can meet many new people by crossing the language barrier which is also a great benefit of learning a language!

I also agree with everyone that taking spanish is important to cross the language barrier in our country.
